The project approaches the topic of energy efficient windows, by using abundant, conflict free, low cost chemical elements. PVD (physical vapour deposition) will be by used as main process of an eco-friendly synthesis method. Optical modelling of the structures will be implemented to optimize their performance, in such a way that the physical limitations of the design are accounted for and implemented in the design. The main scope of the project is to demonstrate the design and fabrication under laboratory scale conditions of a novel multilayer structure for energy efficient glazing, in the form of Transparent Heat Reflector (THR). The objective will be fulfilled through successive steps of optical modelling and process optimization of different thin film deposition methods, each one adapted for individual layers to form a multilayer structure.
